Research:
The genre we were given for our music marketing project is Bluegrass. To define, bluegrass is a form of country music that relies on instruments such as the banjo, guitar, fiddle and bass to form the rare sound that is bluegrass. Because of this unique genre, our research was all brand-new information on artists that I had never heard of before, exposing me and my group to a whole new world of music we normally would have never listened to.
The band that I had decided to learn about was Trampled by Turtles. The band all started when band creator Dave Simonett had almost all of his musical equipment stolen from his car, leaving him with only his acoustic guitar and a dream. Because of the limitation of no electrical equipment or instruments, he was limited down to only a few genres, one of those being Bluegrass.
Tramples by Turtles uses social media such as YouTube to promote themselves by posting music videos and other promotional content such as quarantine, social distancing videos. Likewise, my group and I decided to market our band, Tainted Roots, through social media like YouTube and Instagram to further promote our band. We plan on posting to various social media sites, however, the main way we will promote our band to the public is through a music video.
The type of music video we decided on creating was a promotional-type music video, which mainly focuses on the band throughout the video. Because of this, our storyboard relied on a wide variation of shots and angles to keep the viewers interested and involved throughout the video. We chose a common wardrobe to signify the uniformity of the band, while also revealing more about how we decided to create our new personas and market ourselves.
We created a brand-new persona for everyone that is a part of the band. We began with brainstorming the names of our new selves and ended up deciding on state names. We ended up coming up with the following four names: Texas Jacobs, Georgia Adams, Carolina Brooks, and Arizona Laughlin. Using the first initials of each of these names, we integrated them into our logo for our band, building the initials out of roots. We believe this serves to show the relationship between ourselves and the logo, while also adding a creative kick to what we are trying to create.
